SOGON LOOSES YET ANOTHER MEMBER

It is with heavy heart and gratitude to God that I, on half of the president of SOGON, Chief (Dr) TA Abiola-Oshodi and members of Council announce the untimely death of our member, Major-General (Dr) Innocent Shaibu Ejeh, MBBS(ABU), FRCOG, FICS, fss, mni, which sad event occurred on Saturday, 30th May 2009, after a brief illness.

Until his death, General Ejeh was the Commandant, Army Medical Corps & Chief Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, at the Corps HQ, Lagos. General Ejeh was an active member of our Society. He was a brilliant Officer and a distinguished professional with extra-ordinary humility, candour and generosity.

He lived an active life and enjoyed excellent public relations with everyone who came across him.
The death of Major-General Ejeh is a personal loss to me and my family as he was a true and trusted friend from childhood as well as being my cousin-In-law.

For providence, we shared very many things in common, including being a namesake, an Obstetrician /Gynecologist, membership (mni) of the National Institute for policy and strategic Studies, (NIPSS) and not the least; he is a military General and I being an Academic General.
Information provided by the family indicates that his body leaves Lagos on Friday, 19th June 2009 while interment is on Saturday, 20th June 2009 at his home town Otukpa, the HQ of Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State.

The General is survived by one wife and four children, among his children is Ebute Ejeh of the Nigerian Navy. May the almighty God grant his soul eternal rest. Amen!

Professor Innocent AO Ujah, mni
Secretary General, SOGON

Questions and Answers

Interview of the 13th AHCP General President, Dr Udo Schirmer

Q What do you think the main aim of AHCP is?

A The final aim of AHCP is the patients' welfare all over the world, reached through the multidimensional nature of this splendid organization facilitating communication on professional issues among all health care professions not only from the competent midwife to the competent geriatrist, but also from the learning to the educators to the competent active professionals, and that on all aspects of health care professionals' life. That's my image of AHCP.

Q How do you think that you can make a difference now that you have been elected as the AHCP President?

A I shall not only go on doing what I did hitherto, but I'll devote the time from 6 to 8 p.m., except when lecturing in the medical school then, to get more acquainted with AHCP; and I would engage, if I can, in some more activities as they will arise.

Q What part of your prestigious role are you most looking forward to and why?

A To strengthen links around the world within AHCP and with outside and to care for members by encouraging, promoting good feelings, and valuing whatever their good activities may be, because good links and appreciation foster good international work.

Q Who do you admire most in the world and why?

A They are Mahatma Gandhi, those Germans who stayed peaceful or facilitated the first peaceful revolution in 1989, and Albert Schweitzer, all of them acted with respect for life.

Q What do you enjoy doing in the little spare time you have?

A Half an hour of daily walking together with my wife, Inge, across the open country, doing handicrafts in the house or in the garden, watching documental or historic features together with Inge make me relaxing.
